CANSEC 2016

CCC will be participating in CANSEC 2016 from May 25-26, 2016 at the EY Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. 

Hosted annually by the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), CANSEC regularly draws over 11,000 delegates, 360 exhibiting companies, and 30 international delegations and embassies yearly. The two-day event will feature Canada’s leading defence and security companies. The showcase targets a wide audience of customers that include government agencies and departments with an interest in the defence sector. CANSEC also hosts meal events featuring senior government and Ministerial-level speakers, offering a unique opportunity for participants to network with colleagues and clients.

Government of Canada Pavilion – Booth #1021 

A number of Government of Canada departments are participating in CANSEC 2016 including representatives from: 

  • CCC
  • Global Affairs Canada (GAC); 
  • Department of National Defence (DND); 
  • Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC); 
  • Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED); 
  • Concierge – Government of Canada; 
  • Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). 
In order to help delegates easily navigate the services available to them, the Government of Canada Pavilion is divided into three distinct areas: the Defence Research and Development Zone, the Selling to Canada Zone, and the Defence Export Zone.

The Defence Research and Development Zone offers services to help Canadian defence and security companies innovate and accelerate growth through research and development. Exhibitors include Concierge – Government of Canada, DRDC, and ISED – Industrial Technologies Office.

The Selling to Canada Zone offers services to support defence procurement for Canada. Exhibitors include DND – Industrial and International Programs, ISED – Industrial and Technological Benefits, PWGSC – Industrial Security Sector, and PWGSC – Office of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Defence Export Zone offers services to help Canadian companies sell to international buyers. Exhibitors include GAC – Trade Commissioner Service, CCC and PWGSC – GCSurplus.

2. Export Controls and the Arms Trade Treaty—Roundtable Presentation by Wendy Gilmour, Director General, Trade Controls Bureau, Global Affairs Canada

As you may be aware, over the last few months the Minister of Foreign Affairs has committed to reviewing Canada’s export control system to enhance transparency and rigour, while not harming Canadian competitiveness. One of the key elements in supporting increased transparency is improving Canadian public reports on export control permit data. Currently, the Canadian Government publishes two relevant reports, both of which are tabled in Parliament: the Annual Report on the Administration of the Export and Import Controls Act; and the Report on Exports of Military Goods from Canada. Additionally, the Government of Canada has announced its intention to accede to the Arms Trade Treaty. Global Affairs Canada currently is examining where domestic law, regulation and policies may need to be adjusted for Canada to become ATT-compliant. We would welcome the opportunity to hear from you on these two issues.
