Ottawa, CANADA – CCC is proud to announce the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Guyana to facilitate cooperation, participation in discussions and exchange of information related to the procurement of Canadian goods and services.
The MOU was first signed in April 2022 and its renewal underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering a robust and mutually beneficial partnership. By facilitating cooperation and information exchange, the MOU aims to enhance the procurement processes and ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality Canadian goods and services to Guyana.
The renewed MOU was signed by the Honourable Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, and Mr. Boris Jacouty, Director, Business Development, Infrastructure at the Canadian Commercial Corporation. The agreement will remain in effect for a period of five (5) years.
This MOU will enable the Government of Guyana to bring Canadian technology and expertise to the country, via government to government contracts, to support its strategic investments in infrastructure and information and communications technologies.
Positioned as the fastest-growing economy in the Latin America and Caribbean region, Guyana’s economy surged by an impressive 72 percent from 2019 to 2021, as reported by the World Bank. The country’s economic outlook remains promising, fueled by the burgeoning oil and gas industry as well as thriving non-oil sectors such as agriculture. With a strong 58-year bilateral relationship, Guyana ranks as Canada’s third-largest merchandise trading partner among the Caribbean Community.
Canada’s involvement in Guyana’s mining sector is robust, and Canadian enterprises are increasingly fostering joint ventures and partnerships in the oil and gas sector. The establishment of a Canada-Guyana Chamber of Commerce in 2020 further underscores the shared commitment to bolstering trade and investment.
